Since artist James Holmberg completed his Residency at the Bemis, he has continued his exploration of the dichotomous intersections between conscious awareness and sub-conscious recognition of our surroundings, an exploration that creates a visual dialogue between the synthetic and natural world in which we live.
Holmberg’s current work highlights this “in-between” state by integrating engineered forms with organic atmospheres, juxtaposing actual and symbolic space by conceptually integrating relationships between structure, density, lighting, color, texture and so forth, creating a model showing how the diverse associations that underlie human consciousness formulate our vision of the world and reality.
James Holmberg received his education from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minnesota, and has shown widely across North America. His works are also found in several public and private collections.
