Matthew Cusick

Bemis Center Resident: October 1, 2008 - December 30, 2008
Discipline: Painting

Substituting maps and other ephemera for paint; Matthew Cusick creates elaborate inlaid collages that depict conceptual landscapes in summoning visions of American folklore, mythology and true crime. Cusick earned a BFA from the Cooper Union for Advancement of Science and Art in 1993 and returned there a dozen years later as a visiting artist. Along with exhibitions in Germany, his work has been widely shown throughout the United States, especially in New York and California. Cusick is represented in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and his work also resides in several private and foundation collections.
